Harbison: Ignoring the Past (cont'd)

Decades later President Grover Cleveland remarked "I can find no warrant for such an appropriation in the Constitution, and I do not believe that the power and duty of the General Government ought to be extended to the relief of individual suffering which is in no manner properly related to the public service or benefit." Unfortunately we are now funding every type of “public philanthropic” program imaginable under the banner of “social justice”.
The American progressive movement of the early 1900’s was enamored with the rise of European socialism and implemented aspects of it. Norman Thomas, the six-time Presidential candidate (Socialist Party of America) summed it up best when he said “The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day, America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened. I no longer need to run as a Presidential candidate for the Socialist Party. The Democrat Party has adopted our platform”. Today Democrats call Liberalism “social justice”.
Thomas's words ring true today as progressive democrats drive to “socialize” America. William James (1842-1910) the father of modern Psychology said “There's nothing so absurd that if you repeat it often enough, people will believe it." Propaganda now called “effective communications” does not have to be truthful just repetitious. Both Joseph Goebbels and Vladimir Lenin understood that “A lie told often enough becomes truth".
The democrat-supported Occupy Wall Street groups claim to represent the 99% or middle class. What an absurdity. Instead they represent our failed public schools which no longer produce critical thinkers, but rather politically indoctrinated individuals with utopian world views and a finely honed sense of entitlement. They believe the socialist propaganda.
Democrat policies for decades have kept the poor impoverished and dependent upon government and they continue to deceive the public by telling them the Republicans ignore the poor to support the rich. Now would be a great time to review the past and make wiser decisions about the future and fate of our children and this Nation.
