The Survey Says!

Jim Spence
Polls can tell you plenty about Americans dissatisfaction. 81% of Americans are dissatisfied with the way the nation is being governed Two out of every three Americans thinks the nation is headed in the wrong direction. Nearly 85% of Americans disapprove of the job Congress is doing. Wow! Those are startling statistics. So, why don’t “we” Americans DO SOMETHING about our dissatisfaction with leadership?
A few basic surveys can tell us why using polls to make policy is so stupid. According to the 2000 Social Capital Community Benchmark Survey (and others), only 25% of all American adults can correctly name both of their U.S. senators. And get this. A shocking 51% of all adults in the U.S. cannot name either one of the senators who cast votes in Washington D.C. on their behalf. Coincidentally that is about same percentage of American households that do not pay any federal income taxes. Half of all Americans don’t even know who is governing them. Ignorance about freedom has become the common thread in America; sheer, apathetic, ignorance that paves the way for more and more tyranny.
Why should we wonder why the U.S. Senate can get away without passing a budget for the last three years? Why is there any wonder at all that Washington hands out billion of taxpayer dollars in foreign aid to countries that hate the Americans who fund the handouts? Why does anyone wonder why Washington continues to hand out corporate welfare by the hundreds of billions every year? Why do we wonder why policymakers insist on continuing to blow billions of dollars on an enormous list of allegedly green energy companies that go bankrupt shortly thereafter the checks are cashed?

Is anybody trying the do something about this? The so-called tea parties finally mobilized millions of Americans two years ago. Their message was to get more people to actually read the United States Constitution. They insisted that people understand the dangers to our freedoms that big government opponents like Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and Ben Franklin warned us about.

How has the mainstream media painted the motives of the so called tea parties? Every night on ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, and MSNBC, and every morning in local newspapers all over the nation so-called reporters parrot lies. What is said and written repeatedly about the tea parties is exactly what the big government proponents in America want. Persons and groups that start to gain tractions in opposing progressive’s efforts to transform America into Europe are branded as political extremists at best and racists at worse.

Does the public believe all the lies being spread about the tea parties? Do you think people who say they are dissatisfied with the way they are governed, but cannot name either senator their state sends the Washington, can be conned into believing lies? Is the Pope a Catholic?

For anyone interested in more freedom instead of less, hoping for high voter turnout seems pretty stupid. Why would we want more completely ignorant people watering down our well-informed votes? And why wouldn’t we want voter I.D. laws to protect all of the efforts we make to stay informed?
